Weekly Assessments

I think the weekly assessments was a great learning experience. I enjoyed going through the readings and learning new things every week. The assessments we had to do helped, because I had to make sure I understood everything before I just answered the questions. I enjoyed doing the assessments.

Using Blogger In College Classes

This is the first time I have ever used blogger , but I love it.  It is a great way to help us practice our writing. Sometimes it is hard to write on a certain topic , but we need to write on something that is hard, because our professors are not going to always give us an assignment that is easy to write on. Using Blogger in this class was a great experience for me and it was also a new learning experience as well. I am sure we will all appreciate using blogger in this class in the long run.

Classmate Posts

I read my classmate Sierra's post and she made a very interesting point she said "One thing that helps me when I'm typing my paper is that I re-read it to make sure that it still stays on topic." I completely agree! That is the best way to make sure you stay on topic and make sure you get your point across to your reader. I also agree with my classmate Willie when he said ,"My doc3 paper was one of the most challenging papers that i had to write this year. ...Its like i have to stretch some of the ideas that i really want to talk about". This was one of the most challenging papers I have had to write , because you had to really research about your topic. You couldn't just wing it and throw something together , you had to really get information on your topic. I enjoyed reading both posts by these students.

Peer Review

Peer review is a very important and helpful process. When you peer review , you must remember not to be particular about every little thing. Help point out the major things such as sentence fragments , spelling mistakes , and things like that. You have to remember to try not to come off as rude to your reader. Make sure your reader knows that you are just trying to help them get a better grade. The reader must remember to not take everything to the heart as well.

Doc 3

The things that helped me stay on task while writing my Doc 3 were sitting in a quite place and really focusing on my work. When writing a paper , you need to be completely focused with as little distractions as possible. So what I do when I am writing a document , I cut off my television , my phone , and put my computer in front of me and begin to do my research. That is the only way I can really focus on my writing because I am so easily distracted. The best way I can stay focused is to go to the library for a certain amount of time and do my work.

Favorite Blog Post

My favorite blog post was about our favorite childhood games. Writing about this post made me miss how much fun and how many memories it brought back for me. It was also fun reading some of my classmates posts. I loved being taken back to my childhood , I think this is why this post was my favorite."Tag , Duck-Duck-Goose , "Mother May I", those were some of my favorites , but my all time favorite childhood game was Hide and Go Seek. I loved this game because you had to think about where you were going to hide, how you weren't going to get caught , and how you were getting back to base without getting tagged."

Open Post

I can't believe how fast the first semester of my college career has gone by! I have had a great experience so far and it has been fun. I am so glad it is almost time for Thanksgiving break , because I think we all need a break. It's going to be so much fun being around family and friends. I also very excited about all the food my Nana is going to be cooking. Anyone that knows me knows I over love food so I am very excited about our upcoming break!

How to Revise Your Document

You revise your documents by go back through your documents with a fresh set of eyes and editing the small things. When you finish typing or writing your document , I can almost guarantee you had a mistake somewhere along the way. If you typed your document I suggest printing it off  because some people say it is easier to catch their mistakes on paper , rather than on a computer. You need to sit down and focus on nothing but your document. You need to look for spelling errors , punctuational errors , and sentence fragments. When you revise your documents you need to look for the tiny mistakes that will make a big difference in your grade.

Analyzing Posts

In one post I read, Sierra talks about a few of her favorite childhood games. "Although I played a lot of childhood games, I think my most favorite ones would be Hide'n'Go Seek, Heads Up, 7-Up and Marco Polo." Reading this post made me realize how much I miss being a child playing all these different games with my cousins. The next post I read was by Willie Ramsey and he talked about how he had a conflict in high school."One of the worst things that happened to me was my shoulder injury. This was a serious down fall. I had to stop playing football all together. Just imagine having to give up something you love." I had the same experience when I was in 8th grade and I had to give up cheering because I tore several ligaments in my knee including my ACL. Both of these students had some great posts!

Chilhood and Adult Conflicts

I feel that every child will have a  conflict with many different adults through life. Whether it is his or her parents , grandmother , or professor , all children run into conflicts with adults. When dealing with these conflicts ,the adults and children have to remember to keep a level head , especially the children. I say this because some adults like to use their authority over you just to push your buttons. They want you to get made an react so they can ground you , write you up , or fail you depending on who you are dealing with. The best advice I can give is to always remember to try to keep your cool and be respectful both the adult and child should do this.

Childhood Games

I had lots of favorite childhood games when I was younger. Tag , Duck-Duck-Goose , "Mother May I", those were some of my favorites , but my all time favorite childhood game was Hide and Go Seek. I loved this game because you had to think about where you were going to hide, how you weren't going to get caught , and how you were getting back to base without getting tagged. The game was always fun , energetic , and exciting especially if you play it with your loved ones!

How to make writing more emphatic

The way you make your writing more emphatic is to make sure that you have done your research and make sure you know what your are talking about. If you don't do your research on a topic , then you are not clear on what you are writing on , so how can you convince or tell someone else about the topic? It is very important that you are always clear in your writing because you do not want your audience to be confused on your topic.

Roles Of Guns in America

Guns play a huge role in American culture. Whether they are used for hunting , protection , or anything else , they are used daily in America. Guns have become a big issue in American society ,because all people don't use them for the correct things. A lot of people have died over the use of guns over the past few years. Our current President tried to make new gun laws , but they were not very successful because everyone did not agree with the way he went about it. Personally, I don't like guns and I never have , but as long as people know how to use them, and what to use them for , then everything would be fine and there would not be as many issues with guns as there are today.

Conflict With Family

I love my family more than anything on this earth, but like any family we always have some sort of problem. I am the type of person who likes their personal space and I can't stand for someone to tap on my shoulder repeatedly or something repeatedly. My brother and my daddy both know this , but yet they still like to get in my face and tap me. So the other day , my daddy got in my face and started tapping me on my shoulder and he got in my face when I really didn't want to be bothered. So I yelled so loud that he jumped and walked away.  When my daddy left , I decided to lay down and take a nap. About fifteen minuets after I fell asleep , I felt someone tapping me on my shoulder and I looked up to see my brother in my face and he yells , " Hey Eri!" and then runs off. I guess my family conflict will never be solved.

Relationships with Family

" I do not know if  I will ever physically carry my father as he has carried me, though I fear that someday I may have that responsibility." As we age, we tend to forget that are parents age as well. The writer expressed of how the physical relationship changed from when he was younger to when he was older.  He went from always wanting to beat his father , when he finally had the opportunity , he just couldn't do it. He began to realize that his father was becoming weaker and one day he may have to take care of his father the same way his father took care of him.

Colleague's Wikipedia Topic

My colleague Tatiana is doing her Wikipedia project over becoming an OBGYN. She has learned lots of new things over her topic that she didn't know about in the beginning. "I learned many things about my Wikipedia topic. It enhanced my knowledge even more about my major and the career I would like to pursue." My colleague Maya is doing her project over Fashion Merchandising and she has learned a lot about the industry as well. "I learned that in fashion merchandising , fashion buyers do way more than just buying and selling clothing." Both of these topics are great topics to write on and I hope both of my colleagues get a good grade.

The best information that I have learned about beauty salons is that have been around for centuries.They weren't like the beauty salons we have today, but they were considered salons because people did hair in them. The information I have found in my readings are interesting , but this was the most interesting  because I didn't know hairdressing has been around this long.  " The profession of hairdressing dates back to ancient Egypt, where hairdressers decorated their cases to keep tools, scissors, lotions and other styling materials."

Classmates Posts

In my classmates Sierra Smith's post , she stated that " Women stereotypes are worse then Men stereotypes" , and I couldn't agree more! Women are stereotyped in many different ways ,while men can only be stereotyped to a certain extent , but it is a different case for a woman.

In my classmates Willie Ramsey's post , he talks about MLA and APA format and he stated "MLA and APA are some of the most common ways writers format their paper" and I MLA and APA is the form that most papers a re written in. I chose these two because we sit right beside each other in class, and they also have great posts!

Wikipedia Article

What I have learned so far about my topic is that beauty salons have evolved dramatically since the first one started. Beauty Salons used to be just for cosmetic care or spa days. Today in beauty salons you can get your hair done , nails , feet , and you maybe able to even get some type of spa treatment depending on what the owner decides to have in their salon. Beauty salons definitely differ in today's time compared to how they were back when they first started. 

Effective Introduction

The thing that makes an effective introduction to a Wikipedia article is a strong thesis. The thesis statement is the point you are trying to make or the reason you are writing the paper. A strong thesis will bring together everything you need for your introduction and for the entire paper. Your introduction is a vital part of your paper because it sets up the rest of your paper , therefore you need to have a strong thesis statement.

First let me start by saying that I had to change my article once again ! I changed it to an article about the Beauty Salon , since I know a lot of women are passionate about their hair. I organized my article so that it will tell about the history of the beauty salons , the different hairstyles of different times , and some of the different beauty salons and hairstyles in today's time. This is the best way to organize the article because it will so how things have changed dramatically in the Hair Care Industry.

Men and Women Stereotypes

Men and women both have stereotypes about each other , but in my opinion , the way men stereotype women is worse.  Many women are taught at an early age to help around the house so they can help out their mothers or whoever takes care of them. Some men think all a woman is supposed to do is cook , clean , and take care of all of the household duties. That's not right at all , a woman does have certain things she needs to do around the house , but she is not meant to be treated as a slave! A woman does have some household chores that need to be taken care of , but that doesn't mean a man can't help her out. This is just one of the many stereotypes men have about women.

Humor In A Strange Situation

As many of you know I am a very friendly person and I love to laugh , so I can find humor in almost any situation. For instance , My Nana and Papa are having their 50th Wedding Anniversary in a few weeks and their children are planning the Vow Renewal Ceremony. My Nana wants her Grandchildren to be in it , but some of her children think its best if we are not in it. I was asked if I was upset because I wasn't going to be in the ceremony , I simply replied , " No, I am still getting my hair and nails done so I am perfectly fine." Everyone around the table laughed and we continue to enjoy our Sunday. 

Wiki Readings

First let me start off by saying that I had to change my topic from Pointe shoes to an article about a product everyone knows well , the flat iron. In my readings I have found that the flat iron was invented earlier than some may think. It has evolved in many ways now. They have invented many new forms of the flat iron , such as the wand , and even flat irons with brushes in them. I'm  glad to able to write on this topic , because it is something many women use daily.

MLA Format

MLA format is very important because it is easy for students to understand and write in. Many college students have to write in MLA format. Also many professors want your paper written in MLA format. It is very important to learn how to write in this format and understand its value. This format also happens to be my favorite format!  

Sloppy vs. Neat People

In my opinion , the reason people are sloppy is because they are busy or too tired at the end of the work day or school day and let things pile up over time. Neat people are very organized and know how to plan things better allowing them more time to clean and organize their things. Not to say all sloppy people are unorganized or all neat people are organized , but if you have a long day at school and you stay up until twelve and your room is a mess , you're not going to feel like cleaning up. You just have to learn to leave enough time in your day to straighten everything up.

Gay Marriage

The things I have read about Gay marriage in our books are very interesting. Though I am against gay marriage , the authors in the book gave great points about why they feel so strongly about supporting gay marriage. The book basically says that everyone has the right to marry who they want and it supported what the author had to say.

Wikipedia Topic

My Wikipedia article will be about Pointe shoes. I choose my article to be about this because I love dance and I have loved it since I was a little girl. I used to take Ballet classes when I was little , but I quit before I began to really get into Pointe. I hope that my article informs you all more on pointe shoes!

Writer's Voice in Wkipedia Article

Your voice in your Wikipedia article should be stuffy and to the point. When I say stuffy I mean straight to the point and full of information. You article should give nothing but information about what you are writing about. The stuffy voice is very boring and not fun to read , but it is the voice you need in this article because this article is supposed to be about informing people on your topic.

How to Handle a Wikipedia Reader

The way you handle a Wikipedia reader is the same way you handle a reader in Doc1.You have to keep an open mind and remember that your reader is trying to help you improve your writing. When you are writing in Wikipedia , anybody can come and edit your work. If you write an article , and you don't know what you are talking about , a Wikipedia will tell you and may not be so friendly about it! Just keep an open mind that everyone won't always agree with you , but take it as a learning experience.

Doc1 Thesis

Our Doc 1 handles its thesis by restating  our facts about how important it is to begin creating a professional online image in college. It is very important for college students to begin working on their professional online image now because if they don't , it could harm their future later in life when they try to get a job. Our Doc1 thesis basically restates the purpose of the whole paper.

Wikipedia Project

I think the Wikipedia project is a great way to express how we feel about our major , or our passion. It also gives us a chance to learn about a new tool on the Internet called Wikipedia. I have never used Wikipedia before , except to look up and research h things , but never to write an actual article. I think this will be a great new learning experience for me.

How You Handle a Reader in Doc1

The way you handle a reader in Doc1 is to remember to keep an open mind. You have to realize that not everyone will agree with what you are saying in your Doc1, but that is fine because everyone has their own opinion. You have to keep in mind that their are some very blunt people and they will tell you if they like you paper or not. You have to keep a level head , and not let everything upset you.

Writing as a Tool for Learning

I learned that you can use writing as a tool for learning because you learn about a particular subject. When you write you have to have some knowledge about what you are writing about. Say if you were writing about how sodas affect the body , you have to research that topic and learn about what sodas do to the body. Writing is the perfect tool for learning because it causes you to have some sort of knowledge about what you are talking about. 

Open Choice

My first few weeks at Middle Georgia State University have been great so far! I have met some great people and I have also made some new friends. I am enjoying all of my classes and my professors. I feel like I am going to excel in all of my classes. The only class I am worried about is Math and I have my first test on Thursday. Hopefully I will do better than I think on my test.

Writing to learn

To me , writing to learn is all about practice. It takes a lot of practice to do anything. When you learn to ride a bike you don't get on and magically learn , you must practice. When you begin learning how to write you must practice as well. It is a long process and it takes time, but the more your practice the better you will become at writing .

Doc 1 Topic

 I learned that the Doc 1 topic is a great way for us to begin communicating with our peers and hearing their thoughts on our work. I think that having us work in groups on our topic is a great way to keep from making many careless mistakes. The fact that when we share our documents and even more people can comment and see what changes need to made to the paper. I think this was great a great learning experience.

Wiki Topic

I learned many new things about the Writing Process in this weeks Wiki topic! I learned that in all essays you need a thesis so readers can focus on your main idea. I also learned that writing is a very long process that takes time and the process can not be rushed. Also , when you are writing your rough draft you should write freely. Do not try to correct all of your mistakes , that messes up the flow of your writing , write until your done and then go back and revise.

Doc1 Topic

Our Doc 1 Topic is a great way for us to begin  thinking about the way we carry ourselves online.  In 5 years all of us will be sitting in front of someone interviewing us for the profession we have studied so hard for in college. I am pretty positive that the person that will interview us will  google our names before we even get to the interview. Are the things you have on your Facebook page right now the things you want your future boss to see? The Doc 1 topic is a great way to remind us to always think about what we post online , because it may affect our future.  

My name is Eriana Holmes and I am a Freshman at Middle Georgia State University! I graduated from Dublin High School on May 21st , 2015. My major is currently Communication Studies!
